Vintage Art - Freedom’s On Me.

by User ImageLara on May 26th, 2008

Aside from the barbecues and the parades, Memorial Day is a day of remembering those who gave their lives for the freedom of the rest of us. One artist is paying tribute in a most amazing way.

Poto LeifiPoto Leifi (the guy who painted the Golden Sable series I wrote about in Vintage Art before) is that artist, and the project is called Freedom’s On Me.

This is just such a wonderful thing, as far as I’m concerned. Poto decided that there was a real lack of “war art” since the 1940s post-war era, and decided to pay tribute to the men and women of the US military who gave their lives in the name of freedom in a way that not only captures the spirit of the soldier, but also generates new vintage-style art for the rest of us. The families of fallen service members can also order from the series of their choice, featuring their loved one.

Here’s the operation’s mission statement:

Isn’t that just the coolest thing? Now, without further ado, I’d like to show you some of the great artwork that’s come out of this project. Please click on an image thumbnail to see the full size image, and then your browser’s back button to bring you back here.
