Thirsty Thursdays - Royal Stretch

by User ImageLara on September 20th, 2007

Thanks to TheBar.com for the recipe and image for this yummy looking Royal Stretch!

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Marilyn MonroeThis would be something Marilyn Monroe would’ve definitely served at a party… it matches her dress in Gentleman Prefer Blondes! It’s light (thanks to the club soda, but not so light you don’t know you’re drinking), bubbly, and slightly fruity thanks to the cherry juice, grenadine, and the pineapple piece. Light, bubbly and fruity? Yep, sounds like Marilyn to me! :)

I can totally picture myself in that dress, dripping with diamonds, men in tuxedos surrounding me… who says you have to be blonde to appreciate that scene in the film anyway? ;) Nonetheless, this drink is pure yumminess

Royal Stretch recipe and instructionsIngredients

• 1.5 oz. Crown Royal
• 3 oz. water or club soda
• 1 splash cherry juice
• 1 splash grenadine
• 1 wedge pineapple

Preparation

• Add Crown Royal, water or club soda, cherry juice, and grenadine in tall ice-filled glass and stir.
• Garnish with pineapple.

I forget; is grenadine alcohol? Or a mixer? I used to do some bartending a LONG time ago but since I never drink I can’t remember this stuff. Still I can’t picture myself in the dress but I’ll take the men and the pretty, pretty drink — maybe a virgin version.

It’s really lovely for a drink.

Hey Jennifer - nope, grenadine has no alcohol in it, it’s mainly used to add that red color. It’s essentially the same thing they soak cherries in to make them “maraschino” cherries. It’s a blend of pomegranite juice and sugar, and is very syrupy.

It’s also what’s used to make Shirley Temples! So essentially if you eliminated the crown royal (and maybe even replaced it with ginger ale or something like that) you’d wind up with a very fruity Shirley Temple here… :) I used to drink those all the time when I was a kid… loved them!

Now that I look back at the recipe, you could technically use either all grenadine or all cherry juice for this if you’re in a pinch. Just if you use only the grenadine, you won’t get the cherry flavor.
