Johnny Carson sings with The Rat Pack

by User ImageLara on June 9th, 2008

I never knew this happened, even!

And the fall that Dean Martin takes in this one is kind of scary… really no telling if it was on purpose or later ad-libbed, but it was beautiful!

Who knew that Johnny Carson could sing?

The bottom line, folks, is that we really don’t have entertainers like this anymore. I mean, when can you imagine seeing John Mayer or 50 Cent doing stuff like this with Jay Leno or David Letterman or whoever? It just doesn’t happen.

I believe you missed the point my dear. It is not so much that 50 cent and John Mayer could not hold their own with Leno or Letterman( Mayer could definetely work with either of those two clowns and be damn good ), it is the fact that Johnny Carson ( one of my idols ) could get on stage with anyone and still be the greatest.

LOL Very true, Iz. He’s a classic in every sense of the word. I wasn’t saying that John Mayer couldn’t hold his own, moreso that Leno or Letterman couldn’t hold their own.

And you just don’t SEE this sort of thing anymore… the host singing with the band. It doesn’t happen.

I would pay cash money to see Conan O’Brien (who actually does have some music ability even if he is a goofball) sing with Norah Jones or something, lol. Hilarious.

    Outstanding.

One of my all-time favorite television moments is one night (mid-1980s?) on the Tonight Show when Johnny sang “Tangerine” with Helen O’Connell. If you can find a clip of THAT, I’ll be grateful beyond words.
