“At Last” Lyrics - Etta James

by Lara on July 9th, 2007

One of my friends was talking about her upcoming wedding and how she and her fiance were trying to pick a good wedding song, that not many people (at least that she knew of) had used for a wedding song. Her sister suggested “At Last” by Etta James, which is probably one of my all time favorite songs.

She played the song for her husband-to-be and he agreed: That’s it!

Personally - I think the best part of the entire song is how Etta draws out the first two words… “Aaat Laaaaaaast….”

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
At last the skies above are blue
And my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
You smiled, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
And you are mine at last

Brilliant choice. This is actually the song I walked down the aisle to on my special day - it couldn’t have been more perfect. Now whenever I hear it I’m taken back to that exact moment :-).

I LOVE this song. I get very sentimental over it :)

This song is one of my all time favorite songs. I can’t remember the first time I ever heard it but it stuck with me since then. I plan to make it as part of my wedding. Very romantic and classy.

Marvelous song for a wedding march! My daughter also performed a sashay down the aisle to meet her groom on Sunday July 13th 2008. Many guests were surprised but happily so. All agreed it was a perfect choice.
